Objectives of Professional Development Department:

  • To help engineering students to use Professional Development to leverage their growth and reach their full potential as a professional.
  • To lay emphasis on ongoing learning.
  • To inculcate highly developed communication skills both oral and written and an ability to prepare and present technical documents.
  • To develop the ability to function harmoniously in multidisciplinary, multicultural groups and develop a high level of interpersonal skills.
  • To help the students develop an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

Professional Development refers to skills and knowledge attained for both personal development and career advancement. Professional Development encompasses all types of facilitated learning opportunities ranging from college degrees to formal course work, seminars, conferences, presentations, language proficiency through language laboratory activities and informal learning opportunities situated in practice. It can be described as intensive and collaborative, ideally incorporating an evaluative stage. There are variety of approaches to Professional Development including consultation, coaching, communities of practice, lesson study, mentoring, reflective supervision and technical assistance.

Language Lab:

English language learning is very important in today's global society. English is the international language for business. The wide spread use of English has turned a significant percentage of world's population into full time users of English. Spoken English is essential for students because they need it for various purposes in their later life and would be a serious handicap if they can not use it well.
Considering the overwhelming demand for communicative English, the language laboratory has been established to give proficiency and fluency in speech. A rich collection of audio visual aids like taped cassettes, CD's along with books is available to educate students on diction, pronunciation and communication. By listening to and repeating the clear and correct diction, they learn how to pronounce the words.
Language lab exercises are given in the form of Group Discussions, Mock Interviews, Seminars, Workshops on Communication Skills, Stress in Speech, Intonation Pattern Practice, Rhythm in speech, Developing Argumentative Skills etc. with special emphasis on body language. It emphasises on developing confidence and growing the personality of the students along with academic inputs which is extremely important to make a mark in the professional world. Attempts are also made to teach English in an integrated way by developing listening and reading skills. Further in line with the demands of society, we try to imbibe the inherent qualities of leadership, communication, team work, and impersonal skills to help learners to cope with life at large.
